Information to Have Ready Before Calling
To help us prepare for your service visit effectively, please try to gather the following information about your building and equipment before calling (only if it is safe to do so):
- Type of Building: Let us know if you are in a single-family home, a multi-unit apartment building, or a commercial space.
- Heating System Type: Is your system steam (using large cast-iron radiators) or hydronic hot water (using baseboards or modern radiators)?
- Equipment Details: If the boiler is safely accessible, note the brand name or model number printed on the front jacket.
- Current Symptoms: Explain exactly what is happening. Is there absolutely no heat? Is the boiler leaking water onto the floor? Are the pipes banging violently?
- Timeline: Note exactly when the problem started.
Important Safety Instructions
Your safety is the highest priority. If you are experiencing a heating emergency, please adhere to these strict safety guidelines before a technician arrives:
Do Not Attempt DIY Repairs: Modern boilers and aging steam systems involve high pressures, scalding water, and combustible gas. Do not attempt to reset a locked-out burner repeatedly, and do not remove the boiler jacket to tinker with internal wiring or valves.
Gas Odor Protocol: If you smell natural gas—often described as a sulfur or rotten egg odor—do not use light switches, cell phones, or any electrical appliances inside the building. Leave the building immediately and contact the gas utility or call 911 first. Do not attempt to shut off the gas valve or locate the leak yourself. Only after the utility has secured the area should you contact us for a code-compliant gas line repair.
